Biographie

Indianiste anglais.
Fils de Sir George Colebrooke (1729-1809), president de l'East India Company en 1769-1770 et 1772.

Henry Thomas Colebrooke partit en 1782 en Inde où il occupa différents postes dans l'administration de l'East India Company. Il fut d'abord assistant collector de 1786 à 1794, puis, reprenant à la mort de Sir William Jones la tâche de traduire une compilation de textes de loi hindous, il passa dans la branche judiciaire de la compagnie.
